Intstrumental Service
A centrally co-ordinated service which acts as a resource and support system for schools and instrumental teachers.
The aim is to work with schools and other partners to raise musical standards across all phases of the borough. |
 |
1.) Instrumental lessons - The Music Service at present provides instrumental lessons in 86% of the
borough’s schools. We aim to provide all state schools with a 50% subsidy for
instrumental tutors employed by the Music Service.
Instrumental lessons are
available on: recorder, guitar, piano, keyboard, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet,
French horn, trombone and other brass instruments, violin, cello, double
bass, music technology, orchestral percussion, steel pans, samba and African
drumming.
2.) Holiday courses, Ensembles and Orchestras -
In addition to instrumental tuition, the Music Service also provides a variety of
extension activities to support music development.
These include Holiday
Courses, weekly after school ensembles, samba groups across the borough,
and the Hackney Training Orchestra.
We are currently working on the development
of a wider orchestral strategy as well the expansion of after school music
centres.
3.) Advice on equipment purchase, repair and maintenance -
The Music Service will be pleased to offer individual advice to schools on
equipment purchase and maintenance. We are able to take advantage of bulk
purchasing power to provide the best value to schools.
