Year 1 - My London: "What will I be?" (Jobs and Employment)

Key Skills

  • I recognise the different jobs people do at school and in the community;
  • I can say what job I would like do and why?;
  • I can ask questions about the work someone else does;
  • I recognise the different range of jobs in the Olympics;
  • I can listen and respond to others;
  • I can role play different jobs that may occur in the Olympics;

Entry points
  • A day of dressing up as different people;
  • Visiting different places of work (in and out of school);

Activities

  • Job centre role play area – children apply and get interviewed for different roles;
  • Writing 'A day in the life of a…fireman/policeman/cook ...etc';
  • Sorting jobs – which would you need at the Olympic Games, which wouldn’t you?;
  • Through role play, children develop questions to ask people about their jobs;
  • INSPIRE - the Education Business Parnership fopr Hackney can provide advice and support.
Outcomes
  • An understanding of the different jobs involved in the Olympic Games and be able to say which they would like to do and why?;
  • Mock interview for a job at the Olympics;
