Year 3 - My Future: "Bright future" (Balanced diets)

    I can identify the effects of a healthy/unhealthy lifestyle on the different parts of our bodies;

Entry points
  • To create self-portraits predicting their appearance in 50 years time;

Activities

  • Keep a food and fitness diary for one week;
  • Study food packaging and look at the new traffic light system. Sort foods into
    'occasional treats', ‘once a week’ and 'every day';
  • Go through week’s diary and highlight the food and activities with green, amber and red. Children to evaluate whether they have a mostly green, amber or red lifestyle;
  • Create a barchart using the number of green, amber and red highlights they got to evaluate their own healthiness (handle sensitively);
  • On two identical body pictures label what happens if you have a green life, what if you have a red life. Label each part (eg: teeth, skin, heart, stomachs)
  • Create a branching database to survey other children, questioning food and fitness choices, at end of each branch is an analysis of their future health;
Outcomes
  • A food diary updated daily and then highlighted;
  • An understanding of healthy food and how you can identify this on food packaging;
  • A barchart;
  • An understanding of how different foods effect our body;
  • A health analysis database;
