Year 6 - My Olympics: "How Far we’ve come" (Timings and distances)

Key Skills

Entry points
  • Look at races being run from past Olympics – predict winners, estimate times;

Activities

  • Mark out distances and predict how long it will take to run/throw/swim etc;
    Improve own timings etc;
  • Children to collect data about their own timings and that of other Olympic and Paralympics athletes. Present in different ways – calculating mode/median etc;
  • Look at distances covered by athletes in travelling to the Olympics from country to country – use scales to convert from cm to km etc;
Outcomes
  • Charts and diagrams of times modes medians etc, llustrated with photos/pictures of athletes with biographies etc ;
