Podcasting
| The word ‘podcast’ originates from the words ‘iPod’ and ‘broadcast’. Podcasts are simply digital audio files which are distributed over the Internet using feeds for playback on portable media players and computers. Podcasting lets anybody with a microphone, a computer and an Internet connection publish audio broadcasts that can be listened to by people anywhere in the world.

Why use Podcasting to personalise learning?
- It encourages children and young people to improve their speaking and listening skills by raising their awareness of their own voice;
- It supports collaborative learning and teamwork by requiring children and young people to work as a team to create a podcast;
- It enables children and young people to review, modify and refine their work and share it with others;
- with the technology available, podcasting has the potential for releasing the imagination of young people, their teachers and parents/carers;
Using the LGfL podcast system
With LGfL podcast system you can create (record), upload (publish) and promote (RSS) your podcasts. Schools will need their LGfL login in order to create and administer a podcast channel. The podcasts can then be accessed by anyone, anywhere on the Internet.
Podcasts are organised in ‘channels’ and ‘episodes’. A channel is just like a radio station - it has an owner, and its broadcasts are generally created by the same group of people and feature the same kind of content. An episode is any individual broadcast that is distributed through a channel.
