Assessment and Tracking

1.) Assessing Writing and Reading

This section contains documents to support teachers with assessing and levelling childrens' reading and writing. When children's levels have been assessed, they should be entered on the tracking sheets so their progress can be tracked over the year.

Target statements for writing - This document consolidates the NLS Target Statements for Writing with the QCA Strands in order to support teachers in using the QCA SATss to set appropriate targets. They also give a ‘child-friendly’ version of each target for children and their parents to understand and use.

Levelling Writing Grids - These grids link the QCA satrands of assessment and the National Curriculum Level Descriptors. One sheet should be used for each child's writing, and highlighted to show where the child is performing along each strand.
