Literacy materials: Texts by Caribbean Authors

This section contains a selection of quality texts by Caribbean authors, which are recommended for use in the Literacy Hour and beyond. A number of the texts deal with issues which will underline the self-esteem of black students. The texts are organised by year group and term and include ideas for Literacy Hour activities.

"We have a few multi-cultural books, but there are very few big books that present positive images of Black children or who are written by Black authors". The texts on this site are a starting point to addressing this imbalance.

They can be copied into Microsoft Word and enlarged if necessary for classroom use. We also recommend that you purchase these texts in order to support successful and emerging authors. If you have additional ideas or texts to add to this site, please contact us.
