Assessement and Tracking

1.) Assessment Guidance

2.) Levelling pupils in SC1

- SC1 levelling booklet – This booklet has examples to help teachers understand the different levels in SC1 to support consistent levelling across a school.

- SC1 observation sheet – This sheet can be used by teachers to identify what levelled skills they will be looking for during an activity and space to record observations. It includes an example of how it can be used.

3.) Science Tracking Systems

These Tracking Sheets for Science Enquiry track pupil progress across the three terms.

Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | Year 4 | Year 5 | Year 6 |

4.) SATs analysis programme

A programme has been developed to help science co-ordinators to analyse the last year Science SATs paper in order to identify areas of strength and weakness in the teaching of science in the school. It may be appropriate for the current year 6 children to take the paper and the programme can then be used by the teacher in order to identify gaps in the children’s knowledge and support planning for revision/booster lessons. You will also find some Help and Support sheets to help you work the programme.

5.) The QCA Standard Assessment sheets.

These sheets are based upon the statements from the QCA documents. They also incorporate year group/topic specific Sc1 skills. The sheets are in the format of a whole class record that can be ticked to state achievement for individual pupils.

6.) QCA Initial and Final Assessment Sheets (from Lauriston and Orchard)

These sheets are also based on the QCA Unit statements. However, they are designed to be used as part of an initial Assessment for Learning activity. The children carry out an assessment activity at the start of each new unit of work, for example creating a mind map. The teacher can then use this to categorise into the statement that best fits their current knowledge. At the end of the unit, information about the children’s progression is also recorded.
