RE Curriculum

The RE curriculum for non-denominational schools is the Hackney Agreed Syllabus. The syllabus was developed by SACRE members sitting as an Agreed Syllabus Conference. The Agreed Syllabus has the same legal status locally as the National Curriculum subject curricula.

The Agreed Syllabus determines: statutory teaching/learning requirements at each key stage; programmes of study; and, attainment targets/eight level scale. An RE glossary of terms is also available.

(The non-statutory 'Pupil-speak' levels are a useful tool for teachers and pupils). SACRE is responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the Agreed Syllabus in raising standards and achievement.

SACRE has developed a KS1 and KS2 RE scheme of work with detailed planned lessons to help schools deliver the requirements of the Agreed Syllabus.

There is an accompanying teaching/learning resources list for teachers.

The full SACRE scheme of work is available to Hackney primary schools from Karl D’Cruz, SACRE adviser. SACRE provides advice and contact information about visits to places for worship where invaluable RE learning about and from religions can be developed.

Advice from SACRE, eg on Ramadan, and links to information from outside agencies, eg BECTa ‘Using ICT in RE’, and religious communities, is available on the RE Advice/Information page.
