Sharing Good Practice
1.) Assessemnt for Learning
- How can we implement AfL in our lessons? - These ideas were collated following a recent Network Training Meeting. Further support and advice is available from the Subject Consultant.
1.) Planning for new curriculum - This is the model agreed at the Subject Leader’s Network Meetings for the planning process for the new curriculum. It reflects good practice, by focusing on skills and assessment, and is thus in line with both the new curriculum ethos and AfL.
2.) Overview of Schemes of Work - each written by a school in Hackney. It follows the planning process agreed by the Hackney Network of Humanities’ Teachers, and follows the programme of study of the new QCA curriculum. There are clear cross curricular links, and the assessment criteria and processes, which follow good AfL practice, have been specified.

3.) History Enquiry Wheel - has been designed by and for teachers to develop the Independent Enquirer personal, learning and
thinking skills in students through investigative projects in History. It includes suggested thinking tools, which
promote the other personal, learning and thinking skills, as well as De Bono’s questions to help students become
more involved and reflective of their learning, and links to the new curriculum Key Processes.
4.) Schemes of Work
- Scheme of Work using
the Enquiry Wheel for The Norman Conquest, (Year 7). This sequence of lessons is based on the overview, and includes Teaching and Learning
activities which can be used as effective Key Assessment tasks, and demonstrates how the Enquiry Wheel can be used
with students.
5.) Resources
Ancient Islamic empire - these are resources should be used alongside a picture of the ancient city of Baghdad. The activities include peer and self assessment wit levels and developed higher order thinking skills.

Teaching and Learning Activities
Industrial Revolution - lesson materials which develop Higher Order Thinking Skills through questioning activities. The tasks have been levelled using the QCA curriculum , and can thus be used as assessment materials.’
